The inhabitants of Troms change their daily rhythm completely during the Midnight Sun period. The programmes of the numerous summer festivals always extend until past midnight. The fish bite best at night, according to local lore. On bronze-coloured evenings, people spontaneously decide to climb the nearest mountain peak to see the Midnight Sun. In Troms, people can sleep at night in summer, but they just don’t feel like it.
The whole of Troms is well within the Arctic Circle, providing plenty of chances to see this phenomenon. The locals, however, can tell you where the view is particularly striking because the sun is next to a rocky island, between some towering peaks or is allowed to shimmer over open sea.
